Polabské mlékárny, operating under the brand Milko, is one of the leading dairy producers in the Czech Republic, known for its wide range of high-quality dairy products. With extensive production and distribution operations, efficient warehouse management is essential to maintaining product freshness and minimizing waste.
To support these goals, Milko invested in a new Warehouse Management System (WMS) that could automate complex warehouse operations while accommodating the specific requirements of perishable goods.
Challenge
Managing a food warehouse with limited product shelf life requires precise control over stock rotation, pallet handling, and FIFO (First In, First Out) processes. Milko’s existing system lacked automation and flexibility, leading to inefficiencies in both manual and automated warehouse operations.
The company needed a solution capable of handling real-time warehouse automation, simultaneous work across multiple terminals, and integration with existing production and logistics systems — all while maintaining reliability in a fast-paced, temperature-controlled environment.
Our Approach
ITIXO developed a comprehensive Warehouse Management System consisting of two key components: a terminal application for Zebra Android devices used by warehouse operators, and a web-based management interface for configuration and monitoring. The architecture combines a .NET backend with Kotlin and Angular frontends, connected via robust APIs and messaging queues.
The system enables parallel operation of automated and manual warehouses, supports FIFO rack management, and allows full customization of warehouse workflows. Through integration with the FIS production system and Atrima automated pallet stacker via OPC server, the WMS seamlessly coordinates human and robotic processes.
Result
The new WMS has transformed Milko’s warehouse operations by introducing automation, improving inventory accuracy, and significantly reducing product handling time. The system ensures optimal product rotation, efficient pallet management, and transparent control over all warehouse activities.
Thanks to its modular design, on-premise Dockerized environment, and robust communication via RabbitMQ, the platform provides long-term flexibility and stability, supporting Milko’s commitment to operational excellence in food production.
